Dominik Pesta is currently a group leader at the German Aerospace Center, Institute of Aerospace Medicine and a tenure-track professor of ‘Translational Metabolism’ at the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine (CEDP) at the University Hospital Cologne. He was previously Senior Postdoctoral Fellow at the German Diabetes Center in Düsseldorf and was awarded an Erwin Schrödinger fellowship granted by the Austrian Science Fund for a research stay at Yale University, New Haven, CT.

Professor Pesta’s research focuses on how exercise affects energy metabolism and mitochondrial function and its significance as a countermeasure in spaceflight-induced deconditioning as well as for prevention and treatment of metabolic diseases such as diabetes.

In his capacity as chairman of the EASD Exercise and Physical Activity Study group (ExPAS), he promotes communication, scientific collaborations and clinical education in the areas that link exercise sciences to metabolism and diabetes.
