We've changed the way you complete courses
In response to user feedback we have simplified the way courses can be completed.
Until now you needed to complete the topics and modules in order, from start to finish. But from today you can complete them in any order you wish.
Just visit any topic that interests you, and when you are ready mark it as completed by clicking the green 'Mark complete' button at the bottom of the page.
Once you have completed all of the topics in a module an assessment will be provided for you.
Complete all the assessments to finish the course.
The Qur’an requires Muslims to fast during the month of Ramadan from sunrise to sunset. The first module of this course introduces you to Ramadan and investigates the epidemiology of fasting, as well as considering cultural sensitivity versus cultural competence in a practical setting. Module 2 focuses on the pathophysiology of fasting, lifestyle changes and risk factors. The third module looks more closely at the importance of pre-Ramadan assessments and risk stratification and presents study data from clinical trials that have been carried out in this area. Module 4 drills down deeper into these clinical trial results, including those for type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and discusses the advice healthcare professionals can offer patients who wish to fast and can do so safely. Module 5 guides you through the latest consensus guidelines from the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), which address the controversial topic of Ramadan fasting for young people with diabetes. Finally, module 6 looks at how continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has shed fresh light on fasting during Ramadan. Concluding with a series of interactive case studies, this module gives you the opportunity to see how you might apply these insights in clinical practice.
