In 2018, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) jointly published a guidance document entitled the Management of Hyperglycemia in Type 2 Diabetes. This was produced by an international panel of diabetes care experts assembled by the ADA and the EASD and, with its comprehensive review of the latest evidence, it called for a paradigm shift to patient-centered care. This two module course course interviews several of the panel’s experts, focussing on different aspects of the decision cycle both from primary and secondary care perspectives. Glucose-lowering medication approaches, the importance of intensifying injectable therapies and combining therapies are also discussed. The 2019 update to this report which incorporates the outcome data of several important new trials is covered in the second module.
